US confident about credit card access to China

The Bush administration expects a breakthrough about foreign access to China's credit card market in advance of a visit to Beijing next month by a high-level delegation led by Hank Paulson, the Treasury secretary.

The assurance by the administration will ease industry concerns that China would refuse to honour commitments to relax rules about the handlingof electronic payments by companies such as Citigroup, American Express and Ebay.
