From middle-man to true Noble

When Richard Elman founded Noble Group in 1987, the Hong Kong-based commodities trader was a tiny middle-man profiting from the opacity of Asian markets.

“We started this business to make a living. We had two telephones,” Mr Elman says, gesticulating as if talking on two handsets at the same time. “Because of time differences or the lack of information, we were able to make a living.”
