New White House post underlines reform zeal

Barack Obama has appointed a veteran management consultant to the new position of White House chief performance officer as part of his efforts to make government more efficient and transparent.

He said Nancy Killefer, a senior executive at McKinsey & Co, would work with cabinet members and the White House budget office to streamline the bureaucracy and eliminate unnecessary programmes.
