Contest starts for plum EU posts

The race to secure senior jobs in the next European Commission intensified on Friday with the big member states keen to secure the most important economic dossiers.

Many of the larger European Union members, including France and Germany, stayed out of the race for the presidency and foreign affairs jobs in the hope of being rewarded with commission roles that will influence the recasting of the global economy after the financial crisis.
