The Arctic sea will be ice-free in the summer within 20 years, shortening the global time frame on climate change by a decade, according to a new report released yesterday.
Speaking at the Royal Society of Arts, Peter Wadhams, one of the world's leading authorities on sea-ice cover in the North Pole, said "man has taken the lid off the northern part of his planet". This so-called lid is the northern hemisphere's protective heat shield.
