Shia cleric urges US to remove Iraq envoy over 'Sunni bias'

A senior Shia cleric yesterday called for the removal of the US ambassador in Baghdad amid signs of growing tensions between the US and leaders of the majority Shia community.

Ayatollah Mohammed al-Yacoubi accused Zalmay Khalilzad, the US envoy, of taking the side of Sunni Arabs in Iraq's growing sectarian conflict and warned that this would only lead to more American failures.
