Osborne attacked for science 'jibe'

Researchers, investors and universities have attacked Conservative criticism that Britain is not doing enough to exploit commercially its scientific discoveries.

As he completed a tour of Silicon Valley, George Osborne, shadow chancellor, told the Financial Times that the Tory party would examine ways of making it easier and cheaper to protect patents, would promote access to risk capital for start-up companies and would attempt to nurture an "entrepreneurial culture".
