HP agrees $13.9bn deal for EDS

Hewlett-Packard on Tuesday agreed to buy Electronic Data Systems, one of the the world’s biggest information technology services companies, for $13.9bn.

The deal marks an attempt by Mark Hurd, HP’s chief executive, to challenge IBM’s dominance in IT services, of one of the technology industry’s most lucrative markets.
