Pakistan calls for more aid as it marks earthquake anniversary

Pakistan yesterday commemorated the first anniversary of the devastating earthquake that killed more than 73,000 people, amid calls from government officials for more international assistance.

Foreign donors have promised to give $6.5bn (£3.5bn, €5.2bn) in grants and soft loans for rehabilitation activities, including $3.6bn for reconstruction work. Pakistan has sought another $800m for reconstruction after officials concluded they had underestimated the cost of building homes.
