Wyeth in early-stage negotiations to buy Crucell

Crucell, a Dutch vaccine and biopharmaceuticals maker, said yesterday that it was in friendly but early-stage talks over a potential takeover by US drugmaker, Wyeth.

A deal to buy Crucell, which has a market capitalisation of about €750m ($1bn), would strengthen Wyeth's already formidable franchise in vaccines - a fast-growing and high-margin niche into which a number of pharmaceuticals groups have diversified in recent years.
