Beijing looks at 3G licences to spur economy

Beijing is considering issuing licences for third-generation mobile telecom services as early as next month in the hope of providing an extra stimulus to China’s slowing economy.

If implemented, analysts say the earlier-than-expected start to 3G services could kickstart the bigger changes in China’s telecom market that had so far failed to materialise following a sector-wide restructuring announced in May.
