Book closes on terror war policy

Barack Obama yesterday ordered the closure of the Guantánamo Bay detention camp and CIA secret prisons, closing the book on the Bush administration's controversial "war on terror" policies.

The president said the prison camp on Cuba would be closed within a year. Flanked by retired admirals and generals who had urged him to overturn the Bush policies, Mr Obama signed executive orders that included barring the CIA from using harsh interrogation methods.
