Bankers detect shift in regulatory power

Late on Sunday night, chief executives of Wall Street firms were summoned to take part in a conference call that could have far-reaching repercussions on the future of US financial regulation.

At the other end of the line were Hank Paulson, US Treasury secretary and Tim Geithner, president of the New York Federal Reserve.
