Bourses lifted by growth news

A surprise return to economic growth for France and Germany lifted European equity markets yesterday, as the region’s largest economies benefited from robust consumer and public spending.

After a year of contraction, the French and German economies grew 0.3 per cent in the second quarter, delivering a clear signal that the worst of the global crisis might be coming to an end in Europe.
