Oil slides $3 a barrel before Opec meeting

Oil prices dropped by $3 a barrel on Tuesday on the eve of Opec’s output meeting while gold slipped after hitting a record in the previous session and platinum prices reached new peaks.

Oil prices have rallied strongly approaching the Opec meeting in Vienna, and this week’s geopolitical tensions in Latin America between Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador also helped to drive the West Texas Intermediate to a record $103.95 a barrel on Monday.
