Microsoft’s Xbox 360 recorded its best month of the year in September, with 528,000 consoles sold in the US on the back of the success of its Halo 3 video game, NPD, the market research firm, reported on Thursday.

NPD said 3.3m US copies of Halo 3 were sold in the five-week retail period, despite the game only being launched on September 25. The second biggest software seller of the month was Nintendo’s Wii console which sold only 282,000 copies in comparison.
