Rwandan troops allowed into Congo

Up to 2,000 Rwandan troops entered the Democratic Republic of Congo on Tuesday in a joint operation that tests the detente between the once warring states.

The operation aims to flush out from eastern Congo 6,000 Hutu rebels – the remnants of a guerilla force whose leaders allegedly took part in the 1994 Rwandan genocide and who remain violently opposed to the Tutsi-led government in Rwanda.
