Caution: oil forecasts show signs of burn-out

One of the defining moments of the dotcom bubble was the now notorious forecast in late 1998 by analyst Henry Blodget that Amazon shares would surge from $240 to $400.

There were echoes of that call in this month's forecast by Goldman Sachs that current record oil prices may have entered a "super spike period" that could see them nearly double to $105 a barrel.
