Terror trial unlikely to start before 2008

A trial of the people charged with conspiracy to murder in connection with last month's alleged terror plot to blow up transatlantic aircraft is unlikely to get under way until 2008.

Prosecutors yesterday told a judge at the Old Bailey that given the potential length of the proceedings and the number of people involved, they did not think it would be possible for a trial to begin before January - or possibly Easter - 2008.
