Topolanek prepared to step down

Mirek Topolanek, the Czech prime minister, on Tuesday agreed that he might have to step down and that his centre-right government could be replaced by a temporary administration of technocrats.

Allowing for the formation of a new government he would not have to lead sets a course for resolving the country’s week-long political crisis which has also cast a shadow on the Czech Republic’s current European presidency.
