Fresh demand for risk

The start of the new month brought fresh demand for risky assets as recent concerns about Dubai’s debt problems faded into the background and the outlook for the global economy and central bank policy returned to centre stage.

Gold also moved back into the headlines as it broke above $1,200 an ounce for the first time.
