US stocks plummet to 3-year lows

The Wall Street crisis prompted by the collapse of Lehman Brothers and fears over AIG resulted in the biggest fall for US stocks since the September 11 attacks to their lowest level for nearly three years.

Given its strong links to other financials through derivative contracts and other types of exposure, the shock of Lehman’s bankruptcy filing raised fresh concerns over the health of other financial institutions.
