Financial sector leads charge on Wall Street

US stocks made their biggest surge since October on Monday, putting the benchmark S&P 500 index above 800 points for the first time in more than a month.

Financial stocks led the way on the back of details of the plan from Tim Geithner, the Treasury secretary, to clear toxic assets from banks’ balance sheets.
