Citigroup’s jump to number eight in the rankings of most respected companies will be particularly sweet for chief executive Chuck Prince.

He could do with some good news. When he took over the job a year ago Mr Prince said one of his key goals would be to rebuild the group’s reputation, damaged by the actions of some of its bankers and analysts during the stock market boom. The aim was to keep Citigroup out of the headlines, Mr Prince said.
