Anglo American, the global mining company emerging from an annus horribilis of collapsed markets and an unwanted approach, made its latest show of strength by appointing City heavyweight Sir Philip Hampton to its board.
Sir Philip, chairman of Royal Bank of Scotland and formerly chairman of J Sainsbury, the food retailer, joins Anglo this week as “the first in a series of appointments as we refresh the board”, according to Sir John Parker, Anglo’s new chairman.
