Brown announces new UK cabinet

Gordon Brown will on Friday appoint Sir Digby Jones, the former CBI chief, as Britain’s minister of trade and investment, signalling his desire to improve relations with business, as well as building his much-touted government of “all the talents”.

Sir Digby is expected to be one of a number of people from outside the Labour party appointed to ministerial roles on Friday, all of whom will be granted peerages.
