Group urges cut in greenhouse gases

Rich countries must agree to cut greenhouse gases with immediate effect, ensuring emissions do not rise when economic output picks up, according to an influential group of government ministers.

The group – which included senior government representatives from the US, Europe, India, Japan, Australia, Russia and several developing countries – also urged that global emissions should peak by 2020. Achieving that would most likely require large emerging economies such as China and India to cap their emissions from that point.
