EU to relax internal restrictions on trade

A plethora of restrictions that prevent products, from bicycles to bread, being sold across the European Union are to be swept away on Thursday after lawmakers on Tuesday reached an agreement.

MEPs will vote to harmonise standards for goods accounting for a quarter of internal market trade, in a move the European Commission claimed could increase growth by 1.8 per cent of gross domestic product.
