Malaysian opposition leader arrested

Political tension mounted in Malaysia on Wednesday after opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim was remanded in police custody following his arrest on suspicions of sodomy.

Mr Anwar’s detention was to help investigations into a sodomy complaint lodged by a former aide, his lawyers said, adding they did not know how long he would be held.
