Critics of HSBC win powerful new ally

The second biggest pension fund in the US, California State Teachers Retirement System, on Sunday became the first influential shareholder to come out in support of HSBC critics Knight Vinke, the activist hedge fund, and the California Public Employees Retirement System (Calpers).

Calstrs is understood to have written to Stephen Green, HSBC chairman, saying it would like the bank to “effectively address the concerns recently raised by Knight Vinke”.
