Hynix reports loss amid poor chip demand

Hynix Semiconductor on Thursday reported a net loss for the third consecutive quarter as the world’s second-largest memory chipmaker took a one-off charge for the closure of its US plant and was hit by weak demand for chips.

The South Korean chipmaker joined its bigger rival Samsung Electronics, Japan’s Toshiba and Taiwanese chipmakers in reporting lower earnings as a supply glut drove down chip prices.
