Gunmen try to kill Mugabe adviser

Unknown gunmen have tried to assassinate the head of the Zimbabwe air force, Air Marshal Perence Shiri, one of President Robert Mugabe’s closest advisers and strongest allies, according to the state-run Herald newspaper.

Describing the incident as part of “a build-up of terror attacks targeting high-profile persons”, Kembo Mohadi, Zimbabwe home affairs minister, said the failed assassination attempt was designed to destabilise the country.
