Coffee rises on brewing talk of manipulation

Coffee traders got a shock stronger than a double expresso on Tuesday when a Reuters story hit their screens attributing comments on possible market manipulation in London to Volcafe, one of the world’s largest coffee trade houses.

Reuters quoted Jan Luehmann, a managing director of one of Volcafe’s divisions, as saying that the robusta coffee market was being held to ransom by certain players who had decided to squeeze the market higher.
