Travel insurers try to head off regulation

Advantage, the UK's largest consortium of independent travel agents, is launching an accreditation scheme to pre-empt the Treasury's decision over whether insurance sold by travel agents should be regulated by the Financial Services Authority.

Following complaints of travel insurance mis-selling, Ed Balls, economic secretary to the Treasury, announced in August 2006 that he was considering bringing travel insurance under the FSA, the City regulator.
