Motorola optimistic in face of criticism

Motorola’s troubled mobile phone business will return to profit next year, Tom Meredith, chief financial officer, said on Friday.

The once high-flying mobile devices business, the largest of Motorola’s three divisions, reported losses in each of the past two quarters, forcing Ed Zander, chief executive, to announce a series of cost-cutting moves, including a total of 7,500 job losses.
