Pakistan's opposition parties to join forces

Pakistan's two main opposition parties, which won the most seats in Monday's parliamentary election, agreed last night to form a coalition government. It is a significant setback for President Pervez Musharraf's rule.

After a meeting in Islamabad, Asif Zardari, chairman of the Pakistan People's party, said: "We have agreed to work together to form government at the centre and the [four] provinces."
