Guy Hands, the head of private equity group Terra Firma, is negotiating to buy the vast cattle ranches owned by the Packer family, the Australian business dynasty.

Mr Hands is in advanced talks with James Packer to buy Consolidated Pastoral Company for about A$425m (US$294m).
