Thanks to making public a steady stream of detailed technical information (combined with private discussions with hardware and software partners), Microsoft has managed to maintain interest in the forthcoming version of Windows while keeping customers informed.

Unsurprisingly, there are few surprises in the Windows 7 release candidate – the last test version before it ships – but there are few disappointments either.
