BoT appoints first female governor

Thailand’s new cabinet on Tuesday confirmed Tarisa Watanagase as the new governor of the Bank of Thailand.

The appointment of Mrs Tarisa, the first female governor in the central bank’s 64-year history, came as the cabinet agreed to lift the ban on political gatherings of more than five people. Martial law, however, will remain in place, prime minister Surayud Chulanont said.
