Osborne chastened over role

George Osborne is to play a lower-profile role in Conservative party fundraising after being chastened by the controversy over his meetings with a Russian oligarch.

The shadow chancellor has taken the humiliating decision to step back from direct fundraising following a torrid week in which his judgment was questioned for spending time on a foreign billionaires yacht and allegedly "soliciting" donations.
