The Northern Rock saga needs a snappy ending

Three months after the first bank run in more than a century we seem no closer to a resolution of the Northern Rock saga. The taxpayers' liability grows every week as does the threat to the reputation of Britain's financial services industry.

Three questions arise: what should have been done to prevent the crisis? What needs to be done now with Northern Rock? What do we need to put in place to stop another Northern Rock happening in the future?
