US trade deficit narrows by 3.5%

The US trade deficit narrowed by 3.5 per cent to $59.1bn in August, the commerce department said on Friday, mainly as a result of a decline in oil imports.

Exports also fell, raising doubts about the continuing positive impact of trade on the US economy.
