Call to reimburse charities failed by Iceland

British charities that lost money due to the collapse of Iceland’s banking system should be compensated by the government, an influential House of Commons committee has concluded.

However, the Treasury select committee argues in a report published on Saturday that local councils, some of which also had large sums tied up in savings accounts with Icelandic banks, do not receive government compensation.
