Within hours of Tony Blair’s historic victory, business leaders urged the new government to reduce regulation and rule out further tax rises on business.

Sir Digby Jones, director general of the Confederation of British Industry, warned that business would watch the new administration very closely to make sure its smaller majority did not halt the progress it made in the first two terms.
