Move to open top jobs to poorer students

Top professions will be told today to employ a "better cross-section of society" amid fears that many prestigious jobs are the preserve of a privileged elite.

The government will endorse a report by Sir Alan Langlands, principal and vice-chancellor of Dundee University, into the problems faced by poorer graduates in professions such as the law and medicine.
