Brown sharpens focus on small businesses

Gordon Brown has ordered a marked acceleration of government efforts to help small businesses, as ministers urgently try to mitigate the impact of the credit crunch on a sector that employs 13.5m people.

Small business organisations report a surge of interest from the government following Wednesday’s banks bail-out announcement.
