Pay gap widens as women reach 40s

The gender pay divide has virtually disappeared among young people just starting work but widens considerably as women have more children, according to official figures.

The gap is widest among employees aged 40 to 49, according to the economic and labour market review published on Monday by the Office for National Statistics.
