Economists fail to reach consensus on global outlook

A traditional degree of dissent broke out at the opening session of the World Economic Forum in Davos as prominent economists painted contrasting versions of the economic outlook for 2006.

After much consensus last year that the world’s economy was vulnerable to sudden currency alignments including a plunge in the US dollar, the smooth world economy in 2005 and the rise in the US dollar comforted many economists.
