Investing tactics thrown awry

Turmoil in financial markets has inflicted significant damage on the investment performance of some of the biggest names in the hedge fund sector, with data showing DE Shaw and Goldman Sachs continuing to suffer losses.

DE Shaw, a pioneer of quantitative investing based on complex mathematical and computer techniques, has been hit hard in August. Its Valence fund is down more than 22 per cent in the month to date, according to fund of hedge fund managers.
