New US home sales fall 3.6%

Sales of new homes in the US unexpectedly fell in September for the first time in half a year, as buyers opted for bargains on existing and foreclosed houses.

Separately on Wednesday, new orders for durable goods rebounded in September after slumping the prior month, offering another sign that manufacturing activity is stirring in the US.
